Discover our unique process

Exie's manufacturing process was born out of a commitment to an energy-efficient production process based on natural materials. Exie resolutely opts for the short chain by taking control of the entire process from seed to finished product. This is our story, from land to premises.

1

Local cultivation

Thanks to our extensive network of hemp farmers, we are able to achieve local harvests. Our close cooperation with farmers allows us to carefully select high-quality crops grown with care and dedication.

Hemp is truly a remarkable plant. Hemp is ready for harvest within four months and absorbs 12 to 14 tons of carbon per acre per year - more than double the average for commercial forestry.

The annual hemp crop does not compete with food supplies because it fits into field rotation cycles and even improves yields of subsequent crops. It can also be grown without herbicides, pesticides or fungicides, so it is good for biodiversity and soil health.

2

Decortication

By establishing its own decortication line, Exie is able to separate the hemp itself. The decortication process consists of 6 steps: unraveling, breaking, combing, vacuuming and separating the hemp. At the end of this process, we are left with high-quality hemp fibers, shives and microfibers. The hemp shives form the basis of our CaNaDry and CaNaCrete.

Long hemp fibers are baled and sold as a raw material for textiles. Lower quality fibers and microfibers find their outlet in the paper and automotive industries.

3

Processing

Our ready-to-use insulation materials are made on site by adding carefully selected lime, water and additives. Our raw materials are 100% organic; no chemicals are added anywhere in the production process.

In addition, all production waste is recyclable; it is reintroduced into the production process, so there is virtually no waste disposal.

Finally, production is characterized by an energy-efficient approach, which not only reduces environmental impact, but also lowers operating costs.

4

Insulate

After processing, our insulation materials can go directly from factory to yard.

Our products can be installed immediately. All our materials can be used in both new construction and renovation projects, offering a wide range of applications.

5

Reuse

Our insulation materials last a minimum of 150 years.

When a building that was insulated with Exie materials is demolished, Exie takes the materials back for re-instatement.

At Exie, circular construction is not an aspiration but a reality.
